Frequently Asked Questions?

How can we offer such affordable rates?

talkcheap buys wholesale national/mobile/international minutes and resells at a much cheaper rate than the standard Telecommunications providers.

How can I pay?

We have the facilities to accept credit card (Visa/Mastercard/AMEX), direct credit, cheque or direct debit.

What do you need to use the talkcheap service?

All you need is a New Zealand landline connected to a Telecommunications provider (i.e. Telecom/TelstraClear/Vodafone/Other)

We have a PABX, what are our options?

If you have a PABX you have the choice of two options:

  • Automatic - we can modify which toll provider you use at the exchange level, so whenever you make a toll call, you'll automatically use the talkcheap network.
  • Manual Prefix - for all calls within New Zealand, replace the leading '0' of the area code with '0523', e.g. 09 becomes 05239.
For International calls, replace the leading '00' of the country code with '0526', e.g. 0044 becomes 052644

How are the call charges calculated?

We calculate the call charge based on a minimum charge of one minute (60 seconds), then pro rata per second after that. After the first 60 seconds you will pay only 1/60th of the charge for each second used thereafter.

How can I view my call history?

To view a detailed history of all calls made please login to the Account Login and click on Call Search.

How will I be invoiced?

To keep our costs low we will email your invoice at the beginning of each month within the first 5 business days. This will be emailed to the address (or billing email address) you supplied when you completed the sign-up form. You can change this address at any time in the Account Details section.

How long will my call history be available online?

Your call history will remain online for at least 12 months and will then be archived.
